It was 2018. I was on a business trip in the vibrant city of Melbourne, Australia, soaking in the sights, sounds, and street culture that defined the city. One afternoon, wandering through the laneways of the CBD, I noticed a long queue curling around a corner. No sneaker drop. No concert. Just cups — sealed, colorful, and crowned with thick straws.

A drink I’d never seen before.

I took my first sip — and in that moment, everything changed.
As a lifelong chocolate lover, the Chocolate Milk Boba hit every note.

When I returned home to South Africa, I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
And during the global pause of the pandemic, that memory sparked something bigger — the idea that would become Boba Tea Café.
